Turlough OCarolan 1670-March 1738 was a Harpist who travelled around Ireland composing songs and tunes for people in exchange for their hospitality, he was born near nobber, Co meath and was blind from smallpox at the age of 18, At the age of 50 OCarolan married Mary Maguire and settled down on a farm near Mohill, Co Leitrim (where this statue stands today) they had 7 children 6 girls and 1 boy, he is buried in ODuignans Church of Kilronan, Co Roscommon
